Swiss watchmaking industry.
CARTIER WATCHMAKING MANUFACTURES
Cartier Watchmaking Manufactures employ 1200 staff, from more than 30 different nationalities, across 5 sites in 3 cantons (as of 2021).
Built in the year 2000, the Cartier Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds brings together most of the crafts involved in watchmaking, from design through to production, as well as administrative and support services. More than 120 professions are brought together across a 33,000m2 space. Traditional steel or gold watches are developed and produced on this site. The Maison des Métiers d'Art, located just next to this manufacture on an old, renovated farm, is dedicated to crafts like fine watchmaking, fine jewelry, marquetry, enamelling techniques, and the art of fire.
Glovier in the Jura plays host to the first steps in watchmaking, metal stamping. Steel and gold watches are produced and assembled in Villars-sur-Glâne, located in the canton of Fribourg.
The "Manufacturing Lab", where the latest technologies are tested, is found in Couvet.

COMMITMENTS
THE ENVIRONMENT
Preserving the environment is a priority for the
Manufacture, who are putting this commitment
into practice by developing several areas:
• Eco-design in the development of its new
products (finding alternatives to leather straps,
extending the battery life, etc).
• Sourcing raw materials and components that
respect the environment (recycled gold, suppliers
with certifications such as the Responsible
Jewelry Council, suppliers committed to reducing
their CO2 emissions, etc.)
• Continuously designing and improving
infrastructure and production processes to
minimise its impact in terms of global warming
and pollution ("LEED" certification of its
Manufactures, commitment to the "Science Based
Target Initiative" for a quantified reduction in its
CO2 emissions etc.)

DEVELOPMENT
For the MACH 4.0 concept, the Manufacture has
set up an industrial project in order to design the
Manufacture of the future, anticipating the
evolution of watchmaking professions. The
Manufacturing Lab in Couvet tests new initiatives
and digital technologies. It's a multi-disciplinary
project that aims to improve customer service,
product quality and traceability, optimise
processes and develop employees' skills.
